She captioned it: 'Why do my arms stay mad skinny but my stomach gets so fat??,' followed by a distraught, crying and laughing emoji.

However, Eugenie's fans were quick to hit back at the snap and accuse the tennis ace of 'attention seeking'.

The Big Bang Theory star Kaley led the comments as she said: 'I'm gonna punch you', with Eugenie replying with: 'Look who's talking,' followed by three despair emojis.

While another person said: 'Someone's looking for some attention tonight,' followed by a face palm emoji.

A different account put: 'What ru talking about.'

Another follower commented: 'Please consider what you're saying, your stomach is not big and you're sending the wrong message to girls who will look at their stomach and compare it to yours and try to stop eating.'

A different user said: 'Here’s the attention you ordered.'

While another fan added: 'Just stop. You know you are not fat. This is not helpful to the girls that follow you. You want a six pack? That's your right. Cut out the carbs and tell your trainer that's what you want. Stop equating no abs for being fat.'

Eugenie hit back at one of the comments about attention seeking and said: 'Not looking for attention, I'm actually making fun of myself. And showing that it's OK not to be percent! Because none of us are!

'I'm poking fun at myself bruhhh you should try it, it's fun. Not take life too seriously, and laugh with other people. Also I'm genuinely wondering why this happens,' followed by a crying laughing emoji.

She also appeared to hit back at the criticism she had received for the post as she shared a cryptic image about 'haters' on her Instagram story.

The acrostic quote spelled out haters, then expanded with 'having anger towards everyone reaching success'.

Eugenie's Instagram snap comes after she took to Instagram to praise her worthy opponent, Bianca Andreescu, with a sweet snap of them hugging after being knocked out of the Rogers Cup earlier this month.

'I think it was a solid match from me and the best I've played since I've come back from injury,' she said. 'You know, she's 20 in the world. She's a great player.

'So to battle with her till 6-4 in the third gives me confidence and just motivates me to work even harder.'

She added that the two were excited to face off on the court for the Rogers Cup.

'We were actually messaging on Instagram when we found out we played each other, and we were actually saying how cool it is, like, that Felix and Vasek were playing each other first round and then me and her, and that it's good for Canadian tennis.

'I was like, "Yeah, let's just put a show out there." And she was like, "Yeah, let's go." And I think we did.'
