Emmerdale star Sandra Marvin admits she's 'sad' to be leaving the soap after two years because the cast have become 'like a family'

She recently revealed she'd quit Emmerdale after two years as head teacher Jessie Grant, though TV bosses have left the door open for a return.

And Sandra Marvin discussed her departure from the long-running soap for the first time during an appearance on Tuesday's edition of Loose Women.

The actress admitted it was 'quite sad' to be leaving the show, as she said of going: 'Yes, I am. it's quite sad. Two years!'

'No I didn’t know [it would be for two years]. I knew I was a headmistress and then they brought in one son and another son, and she got with Marlon it's been so exciting. She got shot!'

Going on to gush about her fellow cast members, she added: 'They’re such a lovely family of people at Emmerdale I have had such a lovely, lovely time.'

In the soap, her character, Jessie, has been suspended as head teacher in the fallout of the grooming storyline which saw paedophile Maya Stepney prey on teen Jacob Metcalfe.

But the actress is now set to tread the boards alongside Coleen Nolan for musical The Thunder Girls, which sees a group of former friends try to set aside their differences to bring their band back together.

Of joining the production, Sandra told the panel: 'The character I’m playing is feisty, I’m so excited. it's sold out, as is the book that it's based on!'

On Monday, the actress revealed she was ready for her next challenge but she admitted her last day of filming was going to be 'emotional'. 

She told OK magazine: 'There are so many amazing people looking for work and it’s a tough industry, but if you don’t challenge yourself you’ll never know. My last day will be emotional. There’s definitely going to be a wobbly lip!' 

Sandra's role has been packed with drama as she was once shot and held hostage during her time on the show.

Recently, Jessie's marriage to Marlon had been tested since her eldest son Billy arrived in the Dales and she was suspended from her head teacher post.

Sandra revealed her character won't be killed off in her final storyline because Emmerdale bosses wanted to leave the 'door open'.

The actress confessed she was 'grateful' she could make a possible comeback to the soap in the future. 

She added: 'Thank God they’ve left the door open, I’m very grateful for that.'

Soap fans will have to wait to see what Jessie's exit storyline is as it has yet to be publicly revealed. 

Sandra has had a varied acting careers across theatre, musicals and plays as well as her time on Emmerdale. 

She added about her exit: 'It’s been an amazing time on Emmerdale but I’m also excited to see what the future could hold.'
